Hampshire Wedding Photographer | Megan + Adam

At the end of Paul and Wade’s big day last year, I drove home thinking what a thoroughly bunch of lovely people were at their civil partnership, and Megan and Adam were certainly part of that bunch. Their wedding was relaxed and easygoing, just like they are, and was held all within a few minutes walk from Megan’s family home in Gosport. Many members of the congregration turned out to support the couple as well as Megan’s father, who just happens to be the vicar at St Mary’s Church. After being pummeled by confetti we headed for the beach for a quick portrait session (such a rare occasion for me to be near a beach!). It’s always a good idea to do portraits somewhere a bit more private as it gives the bride and groom a bit of time on their own to enjoy being newly married and to let it all sink in before joining their guests for the rest of the day. St Clement Danes and Thames Rowing Club | Lindsy + Richard

There are a few weddings every year at which I simply adore the family, and Lindsy’s family is definitely one of them. I was so happy to have hooked up again with her and Rich after meeting them at Lindsy’s brother’s wedding last year. Rich is in the RAF so naturally they decided to get married at St Clement Danes, the Central Church of the Royal Air Force, situated on an island right on the Strand. “Oranges and Lemons” say the bells of St Clement’s. Sound familiar? Rich and his men were dressed in their finest, complete with swords which were used to make a dramatic exit from the church. The whole day was very much about London in springtime. After the ceremony we piled onto a red double-decker bus which took us to Blackfriar’s Embankment and from where we sailed to Thames Rowing Club in Putney. A nice touch were the dohl drummers who greeted us at Putney Pier and marked the second half of the day, where there was a much more Eastern atmosphere, reflecting Lindsy’s roots. Lindsy and Rich put so much into their day and it was worth every effort, with the finale being an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G choreographed dance in Bollywood style! Here are a few faves from the day:

Documentary Workshop – Guernsey

It was another hard, but rewarding week at the MyVision Documentary Photography Workshop, this time in Guernsey. This is not like any other workshop in the country where you sit, listen a bit and take a few notes before heading out to your assignment. It’s about pushing the limits well beyond taking the obvious picture. The great photo essays of the most seasoned photojournalist are often taken over a period of months and even years. At this workshop, participants have just two days, often starting at dawn, to capture their subjects which ranged from bus drivers to funeral directors, then come back to base for a true and honest critique of their work. Next time you view a set of images that really makes an impact, think about the years of training and experience that went into creating those images. They’re not simply lucky moments! It takes time and a substantial personal investment to see things from a different perspective and to capture a moment in a new, fresh way. Check out how the photographers on the workshop fared.

I was thrilled to find out that I made the shortlist for the top wedding photographer in the South East. I must thank my past clients for being so generous with voting and especially for their comments – I was genuinely moved when reading them. Caroline + Trevor at Hedsor House

I admit to having a soft spot for anyone who is best friends with the animals in his or her life, so naturally I instantly took a shine to Caroline and Trevor. They are probably one of the busiest couples I’ve ever come across. Being professional showjumpers, they’re on the road for most of the year competing all over the world. Not only are they very good at what they do, they clearly love it and it’s very much a part of their lives together. On top of their punishing schedules, they managed to squeeze in the small matter of a wedding at the tail end of 2011!

On the day I was greeted by some friendly, furry faces at Caroline’s family home:

We then headed down to St James church in Fulmer, Bucks for the ceremony. Guest kept warm in the pub next door, captured by photojournalist Elizabeth Dalziel who helped me out on the day:

We were blessed with the most beautiful light upon arriving at Hedsor House and light is one thing you never take for granted when photographing in winter!

I love the next two pictures by Elizabeth and it really shows off the moody lighting on the dancefloor.

Caroline and Trevor, you are still whooshing down the slopes I imagine but if you are reading this then I thank you for a fab day and many best wishes for 2012!

I’m really looking forward to the new year and have a whole host of things to still blog from last year that I haven’t yet got round to yet – watch this space…

Rachel + Oliver | Royal Opera House

I had the pleasure of photographing Rachel’s sister, Victoria’s wedding earlier this year at Kensington Palace. Soon afterward Rachel got in touch with the sweetest of emails, providing details of how she and Olly had met, the roads they had travelled and how much they mean to each other. Anyone who knows these two will probably understand exactly what I’m talking about! They are a couple who are completely in tune with one another, already having known each other for half their lives.

I was really looking forward to the big day and could barely sleep the night before – I just wanted to jump out of bed and get started! Here are a few faves from the day:

Helen + Pete | Great Fosters, Surrey

Here are a few faves from Helen and Pete’s winter wedding at Great Fosters on a clear and crisp day. There was a lovely atmosphere at the family house while Helen and her girlfriends got ready - a real palpable feeling of anticipation.

Helen was itching to run down the aisle to meet Pete…

There’s not a single picture of Helen without a beaming smile on her face – definitely the happiest girl alive!

After an emotional service, we headed outside where we had just enough light to do a few portraits before joining the rest of the guests to enjoy a cozy evening by the fire.

My good friend, Rob Burress, came along to help me to capture guests chilling out over a winter Pimm’s.
