Vik + Bally

Vik first contacted me last year while I was on holiday in Thailand about some pretty amazing plans he had for his wedding to Bally.  Being a creative working for the BBC, he had a clear idea of how he envisaged the day, right down to the most minute detail, including his cashmere socks!  Throughout the year we’ve been in touch and I’ve felt quite involved in the plans.  The build-up of anticipation to the run-up to the wedding was unbearable!  Despite a huge schedule of events and a complex logistical plan, they pulled it off to perfection and it was a day none of their 600 guests will forget.

Bally’s clearly beautiful enough to grace the catwalks but what really warmed me to her was her unassuming, down-to-earth nature, completely unflappable.

undefinedWhile Bally was getting ready, Vik was at home with his family preparing for the day.  I was fortunate to have a couple of photographers help out, one of whom is Elizabeth Dalziel, a seriously accomplished photojournalist who’s documented the world’s major events for over a decade.  It’s always interesting working with other photographers who come from different backgrounds and outlooks.  It only enriches what we do.   In fact, I’ve been delving a lot this year into other areas of photography which I’ll be writing about in a later post.  Here’s one by Elizabeth:

Groom Getting ReadyI was also joined by Kim Gray whose vast experience and knowledge of Asian weddings was invaluable in planning our coverage that took in multiple locations all over Yorkshire.  Here’s one of my faves by Kim:

Interesting wedding photography is as much about the things that happen on the fringes as the main events.   Here’s a lovely, quiet moment captured by Elizabeth:

We stopped by Harewood House for a few portraits before zooming off to Hotel du Vin in Harrogate where Vik and Bally got changed for the evening.

Vik and Bally made their grand entrance back to Harewood House by helicopter.  Viewing a blanket of golden light over the Yorkshire countryside from the air makes you feel happy to just be alive…sigh…

Thanks also to Reel Vision Pictures for being a great bunch of guys to work with.  Check out their beautiful cinematography.

Beautiful set Julie!

Stuart + Julie

…or “Stulie” as they’re more affectionally known by their friends. It was one of those weird weather days where it’s hot, delicious sunshine one minute and the next you feel like you’re about to get hit by lightning. At least it was nice for the thunder to be clapping alongside the guests after Julie and Stuart officially said “I do”. If the snippets of conversation I inadvertently eavesdropped on were anything to go by, everyone LOVES these two! Totally happy with themselves, each other and committed to their families. If that isn’t a recipe for a happy life then I don’t know what is. Here are a few faves from the day:

Paul + Wade

Every civil partnership I’ve photographed has had an incredibly warm atmosphere.  They’ve also been hugely emotional, and it was no different at Paul and Wade’s big day at Ashdown Park in East Sussex.  I thought the entire room was going to burst when Paul made his entrance into the ceremony room, holding tightly on to his parents to greet Wade.  They had originally planned for an outdoor ceremony but the rain gods had other ideas.  In a way, it worked out well, as it kept everyone together, and I’m sure a few new friendships formed over champagne and nibbles.  Here are a few faves:

I felt like I was saying goodbye to old friends when I left that evening!  They’ll be returning back to Sydney after their honeymoon in Barcelona and I wish them a truckload of good fortune and happiness.
