Her skill as a photographer is first class but couple this with her people skills, her passion for photography and her genuine nature, makes her one of a kind.
Golly. That’s a pretty nice thing to say!
Hello! I’m Julie. I’ve been photographing weddings full-time for nearly a decade. I’ve called London my home for over twenty years since moving here from Canada and discovered early on that the most important phrase in this country is “put the kettle on”. And I certainly enjoy sharing a brew with new people and discovering about their relationships as much as I love photographing them.
So how do I work? Most couples who book me don’t see the appeal of being the centre of attention. They’d rather spend their time with their friends and family and prefer natural, documentary coverage of their day. I’m a quiet, observational photographer but that doesn’t mean you’ll see me stuck in a corner with a long telephoto lens. Quite the opposite. I like nothing more than getting in with the action, capturing genuine moments as they happen. Ninja-esque, or “stealth” as a bride once described me.
Why should you trust me? For the same reasons that nearly 350 couples have. I care about doing the best possible job at every wedding, whether it’s in a grand country house, a barn in the middle of a field or a little pub in an urban sprawl. And I’ve gained a lot of experience over the years – an important aspect when choosing a wedding photographer. It takes time to learn how to simultaneously manage a new environment, a hundred plus people, a changing running order, rain, snow or shine (sometimes all three in one day), modern family dynamics and two VIPs. And of course, not to mention all the technical and creative aspects of taking photographs.
Everyone these days is an “award-winning” photographer, but I’m regularly recognised by reputable organisations, such as the ISPWP (International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers), and the WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association). It’s nice to know that my work has been noticed by the industry and I’ve gained respect from my peers throughout the years.
- I’m a lip balm addict and can’t function without a tube / pot / stick in my pocket
- I’m partial to a dumpling or two, a bit of kimchi and more unusual sushi (sea urchin, akagai red clam, raw scallops to name a few)
- I lived in Tokyo and travelled around Japan for a year and a half
- I blagged my way into the press pit at a concert at the age of 14
- I rarely go to sleep before 3 am
The quality of her work spoke for itself and she told me that she was always looking to improve. I loved the fact that although she’s really talented and already producing outstanding work, she’s still up for learning and producing better quality photography. She is not resting on her laurels.
